Since
seeing his first show - The Sound of Music as a young boy,
Ben has always had a love of all things musical theatre. A graduate
of the BA (Hons) English & Creative Arts degree at the University
of Portsmouth, Ben is very pleased and proud to have had one of
his musicals publicly performed.

Book and Lyrics for Yes Prime Minister, Gangland
(1998).
Lyrics for Blood Runs Deep (1999), Gangland (1998/9
Reworking), The Eighth Square (2005, 2006); Nonnunquam
(2004, 2007).
Plays - Hole on the Wall (2006); Hypochondria: that
sort of thing (2004). Ben is also a regular contributor to
the international writing magazine Hackwriters.com and
has recently been published on Agenda Poetry: www.agendapoetry.co.uk.
Composing Credits: Scores for Blood Runs Deep (1999, 2003
Revisions), Gangland (1999), Nonnunquam (2004,
2007 Revisions), The Eighth Square (2005/6); Trainwreck
(2006). Two short film scores for SSFVF 2006 (Dir: Karen Savage/Philip
Drew). Composition for Carnival performance (with Dot to Dot Arts,
Portsmouth).
Singer/Co-songwriter for five albums; several commissions. Trio
of Preludes for string sextet - Dystopia
for a Dream (2006).
Current projects include: New musical projects - Dining With
Othello (with Matthew Fleming) and Smooth Move (with
Alex Segal). Song cycle - Childsplay (2006. In progress).
Ben's undergraduate dissertation explored the social and allegorical
significance of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd with
regards to Brechtian theory.
Ben has presented papers at the International Conference 'Song
Stage & Screen: Interdisciplinary Approaches to the Musical
Stage' in both 2006 and 2007. He recently submitted a paper
"Trouble in Utopia: Towards the Idea of a 'British Musical'"
for inclusion in the forthcoming Studies in Musical Theatre
Journal.
He
